Gabrielle Howell
Gabrielle Howell is a Californian artist whose artwork consists of experimental and abstract components. She discovered her passion for drawing during her community college years studying business. While studying data analytics she dived deeper into her craft during her undergraduate and graduate years.
Her artwork started off as doodles in journals and notebooks, then evolved to pen and ink line work on canvas. “When everyone would tell me to write down my thoughts and feelings, I discovered that drawing was a lot easier. Growing up, with all of the opinions around me, it was difficult to be and understand myself. The cool thing about drawing was not only freedom, but being able to look at a picture of what I was feeling. The beautiful thing about art is we all interpret it differently based on what we are going through or feel in the moment” said the artist.
Gabrielle made the decision to not explain her art, but only provide a name for her art pieces. She wants viewers to let her art take them on a more personal imaginative journey.
“One thing people can expect to find in my artwork is a sense of balance between simplicity and complexity”, says Gabrielle.
When asked how the artist defines art she said, “Art is simply, things that take time to be understood. If you think about it…that makes us all art”.
